This is a live recording of the Jerusalem Taverners, recorded at the iconic and no-longer-existing Jerusalem club, Pargod.
The Taverners were one-of-a-kind, a very unique and enjoyable combination of ruffians
You will immediately tune in to the energy of the band, as they were in their prime
The concert was sometime during the 80's recorded live from the soundboard onto a cassette and which we released on cassette
back in 1991 and now, twenty years later are releasing onto digital format.
Due to the fact that cassettes held 90 minutes of music, which is ironically longer than what is possible on a CD
So this has been released as a TWO-CD SET, in order to include the entire portion of the show that was recorded.
However, since it was recorded on a 90-minute cassette, parts of two songs are missing and the songs end in the middle.
They are "My Bucket's got a Hole in It" at the end of "side 1" and "Old McDonald" at the end of side two (which is a highly
visual and scatological take on the popular children's song). Our apologies.
The remaining Taverners recently put on four shows (July 2011) around Israel and hope to do more in the future.
The Taverners no longer with us, Dave Gould (16 yrs!) and David Deckelbaum (a little over a year) were brought to life during the concerts
and their memories will be cherished and missed.
this is from the liner notes:
The Jerusalem Taverners were a rowdy, irreverent gang of musicians that formed during the 70’s in Jerusalem, Israel becoming a mainstay of the Israeli music scene for over 20 years, specializing in Folk, Irish and Country Music. Mainly performing Thursday night at the Tavern on Rivlin Street for free gin and tonics, the group formed around two Israeli folk music aficionados and a Canadian Oleh. During the 80’s with the addition of some new members the band started to perform all over Israel and to appear many times on Israeli TV and Radio shows. Although there were other members through the years, this live recording features the “Classic Taverners Lineup” at their best in a performance recorded in 1991 at the iconic Jerusalem Club, Pargod. The recording was taken off the sound board on cassette (remember those?) and thanks to Ed Littman of EdLittmanMastering.com for the digital transfer.
The Lineup: Dr David Deckelbaum* (Canada) banjo
Yonatan Miller (USA) fiddle, mandolin, clarinet
