Album Notes
Guitarist Mike Bono, now twenty one years old, began his musical career at the age of 5, by making his debut performance in his kindergarten class playing “Yellow Submarine”, by The Beatles. Mike was greatly encouraged by his family, and motivated personally to pursue the guitar because of his natural abilities at such a young age. While in high school he was performing regularly in pit orchestras, restaurants, and several jazz clubs throughout New Jersey. Among his many performances at that time, perhaps the most exhilarating was opening for jazz guitar virtuoso Martin Taylor in his senior year of high school, and then again in 2011. Mike auditioned for Berklee College of Music and was the first guitarist of the school’s renowned history to be awarded a Presidential Scholarship. Since being at Berklee, Mike has had opportunities to play in several different groups, as well as leading his own band called "The Mike Bono Group" that plays all of his original music. The group recently toured in France as part of the Nancy Jazz Festival. They perform regularly in Boston, and New York at venues such as Ryles, The Bar Next Door, and The Middle East. The Mike Bono group will be releasing their debut album in the fall of 2013. In the summer of 2012, Mike went on tour with the Matthew Halpin Quintet, which played at notable venues in Ireland such as The Hawkswell Theater and JJ Smiths. Also on the tour, the group taught workshops at New Park College, and at the Sligo Jazz Festival. Mike was also selected as one of 7 young adults to the Stanford Jazz Workshop "mentor fellowship", where he was teaching with faculty such as Victor Wooten, Tootie Heath, Julian Lage, and Taylor Eigsti to name a few. Mike also plays with inspirational artist Duane Mclaughlin several times a year at venues such as The Greensboro Colluseum, and The American Airlines Arena.
