ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
The Nutopians is an elegant award-winning 8-piece ensemble that celebrates the genius and artistry of John Lennon. Created and led by Rex Fowler of Aztec Two-Step and Tom Dean of Devonsquare, the band gives remarkably fresh acoustic-oriented treatments to Lennon’s Beatles and solo song compositions that often inspire a whole new appreciation for the late icon’s music.

Their first CD "Imagined" won the Independent Music Award for "Best Tribute Album" in 2011. This new project "Lennon Re-Imagined" contains 13 re-imagined John Lennon songs from his Beatles and solo years. Using three main vocalists, acoustic, classical and electric guitars, cello, violin, bass guitar, mandola, violin, accordion, chromatic harmonica and hand percussion, the group celebrates John Lennon in their own unique interpretations.

“With these intelligent heartfelt renditions of Lennon’s best known songs, The Nutopians ranks right up there with the very best Lennon interpreters ever.”
Pete Fornatale - WFUV and Satellite Radio DJ

"Lest you think these are a couple of old folkies getting their John Lennon jollies out, the arrangements are alternately complex, freewheeling and stirring. "Help!" is presented with the poignancy Lennon often cited, while "Julia," featuring the cello and chromatic harmonica, packs an emotional punch through its extended instrumental break. Covering the Beatles is often a crapshoot at best but The Nutopians have pulled this off with aplomb and reminds us how relevant and affecting this music still is."
Jim Lipson - Tucson Weekly

"The show itself was something to behold, and first-class in every respect; an excellent concept with captivating arrangements, beautifully performed and very nicely presented. I personally enjoyed it very much and found it to be a great fit for our venue."
Dan Hugos - Mauch Chunk Opera House

The Nutopians are:
