The Rattlesnakes are a red hot rockabilly act seeped in the traditions of the great music of the 1950’s and post punk revival of the 1980’s. The band formed in Newcastle, Australia in 2006 and was born out of a mutual love of rockabilly and rock n roll.
The Rattlesnakes sound evolved from decades of rockin to the wild and sleazy sounds of the underground bands of the 1950’s and 1980’s and emerged as one of the top acts playing their own original brand of rockabilly currently on the circuit.
Seasoned showmen, the Rattlesnakes have a strong reputation of high quality performance delivery. The band comprises Rockin Robbie Urquhart on guitar and lead vocals, Luke Jamo Jamieson on Slap Bass and Trev the Crusher Cameron on drums.
Primordial jungle rhythms, combined with a fat, slap back bass sound and punchy guitar riffs- this band delivers a high energy sound that is impossible to stop your toes tapping to.
The Rattlesnakes are currently coordinating the release of their third CD, Moonlite Motel. This album is firmly anchored in the Rattlesnakes passion for early rockabilly and exhibits a raw enthusiasm reminiscent of the earliest days of rockabilly and rock ‘n roll.
It has a back to basics, no nonsense rawness that sees the Rattlesnakes digging deep into country and blues as the godparents of rockabilly with some great original tracks. Rhinestone Rocker, the opening track on the album, is a pulsating rockabilly score you just cant keep still to and Bad Company exudes a menacing riff and pounding backbeat to die for.
Covers on the album include a great rendition of the 1956 Warren Smith classic Uranium Rock that came out in a time innocent of the potential catastrophic effects of ‘yellow cake’ radiation – it was seen as a possible way of escaping a life of 9-5 drudgery and cracking the big time with nothing but your trusty ol’ geiger counter!
Other great timeless tunes on the album include Glen Glenn’s Everybody’s Movin ; Pat Cupp’s Do Me No Wrong and a cool version of Jim Lowes 1958 classic Green Door. Ubangi Stomp and Shake Around are great dance songs and are sure to get the toes tappin of even the un-coolest of cats out there.
The Rattlesnakes are regulars on the Australian Festival circuit including the Tamworth Country Music Festival, Wintersun, Chromefest, Revheads and Rockers, Kurri Nostalgia Festival and numerous other hot rod shows and rock n roll events throughout the country. The Rattlesnakes will be touring Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne in June/July this year to promote their new CD and are booked to play at the Camperdown Cruise Rockabilly Festival in Victoria in October 2013.
