"These guys are the cutting edge of bluegrass music in Columbus Ohio" Jake Young (host), The Bluegrass Ramble WOSU 89.7fm
The Relentless Mules formed out of the Dick's Den Bluegrass Jam. Every Tuesday night in the OSU campus district the Mules pack themselves on the small corner stage of this Columbus institution. For decades, Dick's Den has been the heart beat of the local jazz community and now hosts scores of avid bluegrass enthusiasts, as well. True to the spirit of the place, the Dick's Den Bluegrass Jam is a night full of spontaneity and team play. Columbus' top acoustic musicians return week after week in search of the ephemeral, ecstatic moments of music making, to share them with the neighborhood.
One by one, the Relentless Mules found Columbus and each other. Charged by the values of collaboration and improvisation, the Mules have set out from Dick's Den to spread Truegrass music all around Ohio and parts beyond.
This collection consists of 7 classics from the early days of bluegrass music performed by 4 of the sharpest young pickers active today. The songs of Flatt & Scruggs, Bill Monroe, and writers before the recording era are presented here in a style that will please and excite fans of the traditional sound. This dobro, mandolin, guitar, bass quartet keeps the form and format of the old songs, and invigorates them with their fresh, dynamic voices . These tracks were recorded as a special for the popular NPR radio show The Bluegrass Ramble, WOSU 89.7fm
