Album Notes
"Funkin' With Friends" Vol.1 featuring The Michael Foster Project, with special guest The Soul Jukeboxx

- This CD is a live recording from our very popular "Funkin' With Friends" show series that we have been doing at the Varisty for the past 4 or 5 years. It's the latest release from The Michael Foster Project, and our 2nd live CD (the first live MFP cd was recorded at the old Donna's Bar and Grill in New Orleans). For people who have never heard or experienced the Michael Foster Project, or who have never caught one of our "Funkin' With Friends" shows, this is the perfect CD!

"Moments Reflected" Ernest Jackson featuring the John Gray Quartet

- This CD is the debut jazz recording of Baton Rouge's own Ernest Jackson. Ernest is a jazz and blues vocalist, who has been doing his thing in the Baton Rouge area for a long (and I mean a looong) time. The session was recorded at Word of Mouth recording studio in New Orleans.

"Live in Chat-Town" The Soul Jukeboxx

- This recording took place at a live show that my group, The Soul Jukeboxx, did in Chatanooga, TN. The Soul Jukeboxx is a Baton Rouge based, four piece R&B/Neo-Soul group that I started almost 5 years ago. We performed live at the Camp house in Chatanooga back in August of 2011. The group includes Myself, John Gray (member of the Michael Foster Project), on trumpet, Esco McCullom (former member of Jive Train) on Vocals and keys, Greg Darville on bass, and Don Thomas (drummer for Phat Hat) on drums.

And now for the re-releases....

"Any Given Thursday" John Gray Live at the M Bar (recorded 2007)

- This live recording is a great reflection of the connection and comradory that exists amongst Baton Rouge musicians. I had a roster of heavy hitting Baton Rouge natives lend their talents for this live recording. It's was an incredibly fun and exciting night for all those who were in the audience that evening. Probably won't happen again for a loooong time! You just had to be there....but luckily this album gives all those who couldn't be there a chance to hear the great music that came out!

Guest musicians included: Jason Marchand (of SoulHaven) on bass, Eric Johnson on bass, Taron Lockett (drummer and percussionist of Erykah Badu) on drums, Esco McCollum on vocals and keys, Ernest Jackson on vocals, Patrick Bordelion on Guitar, Ron Griffen on Guitar, Michael Foster on upright bass and sousaphone, and finally Rod Jackson and Terrence Taplin (of the Michael Foster Project) on sax and bone.

"The Continuum Experience" John Gray (recorded 2005)

This old release was my first album, recorded at Word of Mouth studio in New Orleans. It holds sentimental value for me, because I really learned a lot from going through this process on my own. I even burned and package the cds in my apartment on my laptop! I left the professional manufacturing packaging to the professionals this time though! Featured on this recording is Chris "The Madd Katt" Lee (from the Michael Foster Project) on drums, Harry Anderson (SU Jazz Director) on Bass, Michael Foster on bass, Calvin Veil on Congas and keys, Rickey Julien on Alto Sax, Brad Walker on Tenor Sax, and Mohammad Ayers on vocals. We had a good time putting this project together, and those guys really helped to make it reflect where I was musically at that time in my development.
