Album Notes
The Special Blend is a collaboration that dates back to the spring of 2002 in Bellingham, Washington where two high school friends, guitarists Jonny Akamu and Nicholas Bishop, began writing music together. Due mostly to college commitments as well as travel plans, the six years to follow put space between the two musicians. However, this space allowed the two to musically develop at the individual level. This included Jonny Akamu spending six months in Spain studying flamenco styles under a renowned Spanish guitarist. Back together now, they combine rock, jazz, funk, Latin, world music, and pop influences in an attempt to create a sound they can truly call their own.

“Given that we’ve been making music for the past six years, it’s funny that only now, does it feel like the real beginning,” says Nick, vocalist/guitarist. “I think it’s because this is the first time that the two of us are in a place where we can give this project the attention it deserves.”

In 2007, The Special Blend cut their first record One Act which they plan to release in early 2008. Now relocated in North Seattle, the two feel that their time has finally come. “We’re so anxious for the outcome of this year. We just want to get out and play.”

The ecclectic style this duo brings on thier first album is simply amazing. It's hard to classify the music into any one genre because thier range is so wide. I highly recommend this album for anyone who feels that music today has lost substance and body.
