ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
I could tell you...

I could tell you many things about myself, if you are interested... anecdotes, travel tales, and a few secrets.

I would first tell you that I am a gypsy at heart, invariably curious about other lands and languages, their culture, music, and food. Food is the essence of a culture, its edible metaphor, the culinary shorthand, for who you are. So is your music. For me, the two are intertwined. Music is necessary nourishment without which my life would make no sense.

You will often find me in my kitchen, listening to a variety of songs from many disparate times and places, depending on my mood. I may be barefoot, darting to and from the garden to pick fresh herbs, adding a splash of wine, creating something slow, delicious, and subtle. My kitchen is a \"slow food zone\" where the chef has been known to break into song or dance mid -whisk. The flowers on my table, like my life, are colorful, real, and arranged by me. They are never perfect. Perfection is rarely interesting.

I could tell you that my Greek gypsy heart loves the wild weather, the wind and rain, almost as much as I love the sunlit beaches of Italy and Greece, which is a considerable amount.

I will confide in you shamelessly that I cannot pass a yard filled with the russet leaves of autumn without wanting to feel their satisfying crunch under my feet, wanting to toss them in the air, throw back my head and laugh like a child at the sheer beauty of fall colors. I am similarly fascinated by snow. I am told by friends in the midwest that if I spent a winter there shoveling those exquisite white flakes, I would feel differently. But I do not believe them.

I might tell you that I decided to make Italian the next language I would learn after I heard someone say:\"Agnello arrosto con barbabietole\". I thought it was pure linguistic romance. Actually, it was \"roast lamb with beets\", but, everything just sounds better in Italian, doesn\'t it? La lingua della musica... the language that sounds like music.

As for this debut CD, like the butterfly released from its chrysalis, my music can take you on a journey of your own creation. Listen and you may travel to many a far flung place and time. You may visit Balaton, a European lake so vast it has been called\" the Hungarian Sea\". Or you might whistle down a country lane in County Cork. You might eavesdrop on the secrets whispered by the waves of the Aegean, or soar upward with the octaves of a lullaby, across the stars into your dreams. I hope my music can become if only for a little while, a background for the daily moments of your life. I will be curious to know if my music touches something in you, and when and where you like to listen. Finally, whether you listen alone, with friends, or with the one who is your singular focus, I hope my music takes you somewhere fresh and new...

A Stunning Debut!
“Butterfly In the Snow” is pianist/composer Tiana’s debut CD, and what an auspicious beginning it is! Fifteen original piano solos grace this impressive collection and draw from a variety of sources for inspiration. Tiana’s Greek heritage could partially explain the passion she puts into her music and the beautiful poetry that graces the liner notes, but I was just blown away to learn that she took piano lessons for only a year as a child. The grace and complexity of her music strikes me as that of a pianist with classical training from an early age. Many mostly self-taught pianists give themselves away with a lazy left hand, but Tiana’s is fully developed and very expressive. Her playing has the natural flow and emotional impact of someone who has spent many years pouring out her deepest thoughts and dreams at the piano. The majority of the pieces are very calming and reflect a sense of optimism, but the music itself is far too pensive and deeply personal to be called “ear candy.” Like all things of beauty, the music is tinged with melancholy. It is also music of substance that is accessible and affecting. Produced and recorded by Scott D. Davis and mastered by Paul Speer, “Butterfly In the Snow” is an exceptionally good debut.

The CD begins with “Serrano,” a gorgeous and dreamy piece full of passion and romance. Suggesting the warmth of the sun near the deep blue ocean in some exotic place and the thrill of new romance, it’s a stunning opener. “Ela Konta Mou (Come Closer)” is a sensuous piece with touches of Greek and maybe a little Spanish rhythm and just a hint of tragedy in the melody. “Starsailor” is a favorite. An intense feeling of yearning carries this piece on a dream. The title song is incredible. Darkly beautiful and passionate, the flowing and graceful melody speaks volumes about the soul of the composer. “Whisper of Spring” is another favorite, hinting at the new life, warmth, and promise of that time of rebirth and renewal. “Clocks” is different from the other tracks in that it is less melodic and a bit more abstract, but still very graceful and urgent. “Blue Morpho” is also freer and very fluid - reflective and bittersweet. Unabashedly romantic and full of love, “You Color Everything” is graceful and heartfelt. As good as the fourteen other tracks are, Tiana saved the best for last. “Twilight Wings” seems even more intimate than the title song, revealing the heart’s deepest thoughts and dreams as well as its own personal truth.

“Butterfly In the Snow” is a must for lovers of powerfully emotional solo piano that can also be very delicate and fragile. This is a keeper! Highly recommended!

REVIEWS NEW AGE

Sentimientos a flor de piel!. Hermoso!.

Interesante pieza!.
"The Heart Outside" es alegre, movida.
Dolorida pieza!.
