Dangerous Music Records is pleased to present Tim Clarkson’s anticipated third album, “Land of Free Men”. Clarkson’s partnership with Cameron Reid and Alex Boneham, along with lyrical compositions marked by rhythmic complexity make this album one of the signature Australian jazz releases of 2013.
A brilliant follow up to their debut 2010 release "CRAB" on Jazzgroove Records and Clarkson's New York recorded 2012 quartet release "Evolution of BEauty" with Barney Mcall, Dan Weiss and Hans Glawischnig.
Now in their 7th year, the Tim Clarkson Trio sounds like no-one else. A unique blend and balanced counterpoint between bass, drums and saxophone, intriguing compositions and rippling rhythmic flow. The evolution of this group has tracked the development of three very individual voices through their trajectory performing internationally into a tight-knit and virtuosic team with a unique place in Australian jazz.
“Land of Free Men” marks a new development in Clarkson’s unique voice. Exploring the historic and contemporary expressions of what it means to live in a free society the album is in part dedicated to the victims of the Newtown Massacre which occurred during the recording session.
"Clarkson is constantly engaging and driving on tenor saxophone... There are metric modulations... creating a maze of negotiated rhythms through which irresistible momentum can still be felt."
- John Clare
"Clarkson’s playing is full of warmth and humour but there is an edge there that hints at darker, more primal musical issues being explored." - SIMA
