ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
TAKE THE JOURNEY...

JUST A MAP--A LULLABY TO THE WORLD is an armchair journey around the globe, offering a fresh look at some traditional and not-so-traditional lullabies from thirteen countries, sung in fourteen different languages. It's accessible enough for children, yet intelligent and thought-provoking enough for adults.

Its creator, Christianne Tisdale, is paving her own way as a versatile and prolific performer. Equally at home performing in musicals, dramas, on tv, the concert stage and in the recording studio, JUST A MAP is her nearest and dearest project.

Christianne made her Broadway debut in 1995 as Belle in Disney's BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, with an unprecedented two days of rehearsal. She followed this with occasional appearances as Princess Leonide in TRIUMPH OF LOVE opposite F. Murray Abraham and Betty Buckley. 1999 was spent touring the U.S. aboard the Tony Award-winning TITANIC as Lady Caroline, and 2000 featured an exciting turn in the star-studded I GET A KICK OUT OF BLUE (a celebration of 300 years of Yale talent) at the New Amsterdam Theatre.

Christianne created the role of Cinderella in NYSTI's award-winning A TALE OF CINDERELLA, recorded on Atlantic Theatre Records (Grammy nom.), taped for Warner Home Video and broadcast on PBS. TV credits include: DAVID LETTERMAN; HOWIE MANDEL; ANOTHER WORLD; GUIDING LIGHT; and an infamous segment of LINGERIE ON E!

She has sung works ranging from Bach to New Age, in over ten languages, in such famed and varied venues as New York's City Center, Avery Fisher, Weill Recital and Alice Tully Halls, Joe's Pub, The Bottom Line, the Baltimore Orioles' Camden Yards, the Kennedy Center, the Redoutensaal of the Hofburg Palace in Vienna and the Hermitage in St. Petersburg. She continues to sing with symphonies throughout North America, and can be heard on recordings for Varese Sarabande, Original Cast Recordings, DRG and Atlantic Theatre Records.

A portion of the proceeds to benefit charities promoting peace and human rights awareness. So far, Christianne and JUST A MAP have donated over $500 to WOMEN FOR WOMEN.

REVIEWS--
Christianne Tisdale shone...VILLAGE VOICE

Christianne Tisdale brings heartbreaking poignancy...BALTIMORE SUN

Christianne Tisdale demonstrated the skill, perhaps still evident on Broadway but almost lost in the opera house, of acting with her voice...NEW YORK TIMES

Add a clear, soaring voice and she can hold anyone's attention...Her voice is angelic, filling the theater with songs that can alternately caress the heart or jolt the spine...her exquisitely controlled singing voice completely wins us over, reminding one of Poe's silver and golden bells...METROLAND

Worth the cost of the CD and more...
This a greeeeaaaaat CD! Don't just buy one, buy two and give one to a friend as a gift...you won't regret it and neither will your friend! What a great voice and if you've ever seen the artist on stage, the music just takes another dimension. Well done!

Absolutely beautiful vocals and songs!
This CD is lovely, soothing, and I love to dance with my 3 year old son and sing along to "Dream a Little Dream"!

Musical view of a world much gentler than our own
Fans of world music get a global tour on Tisdale's debut CD, 16 tracks sung in 14 languages from almost as many countries. Most every song is a gem. Tisdale moves easily between languages...It's not every album that lulls you to sleep with snippets from the Hebrew "K'riat Shema al Hanita" or Afghanistan's "Aa Lalo Bacha Lalo," translated in the liner notes as, "Go to sleep, my little moon, in a cradle made of gold and pearls." ...From the Netherlands to South Africa, it's a musical view of a world that's much gentler than our own can be.

What an oddly beautiful recording.
Christianne Tisdale seems to channel the spirit of the different countries represented, while maintaining what seems to be her own great sense of self and vision. Folk and classically driven, beautifully orchestrated, with a taste of the Beatles' concept albums. My 5 and 7 year olds loved it. SHE SINGS IN FARSI.

for Christianne.. what I think of her CD
Beautifully done! Nothing less than I expected, and much more than I had hoped for. My favorite right now, is "Dream a Little Dream" as I can envision my grandfather dancing with my grandma back in the 1940's when they where young. She keeps the magic in the air.

It's wacky and wonderful!
I bought the CD because it seemed like a cool thing to do. Now that I've listened to it, I'm buying copies of it for all the pregnant people and new parents I know! Okay, so a couple of the lullabies are a little more uptempo than I'd have expected, but overall I love it--and I know my friends will, too!

Peaceful, melancholy, and inspirational all at the same time
Although the languages change on the songs in this album, what is constant is that Christianne Tisdale sings them all exceptionally -- with nuanced and controlled intonations in her voice that bring a different life to each of them. Because all of the songs are lullabies, they are all peaceful and soothing; some, however, seem a bit melancholy, while others are inspirational. A wonderfully charming album!

Just a Map--A Lullaby to the World
Broadway singer Christianne Tisdale takes your family on a
musical journey around the globe with traditional and
not-so-traditional lullabies from 13 countries in 14 different languages. Her voice is simply gorgeous, and the music is soothing for children and parents.

Andy Propst

Global Musicality
Tisdale, one of Broadway’s Belles in Beauty and the Beast, brings a global musicality to this new age lullaby. One finds Australian Aboriginal music in a medley that also includes U2. Joshua Rosenblum (who wrote Fermat’s Last Tango seen a few years back at York Theatre Company) provides the accompaniment, with a number of instrumental sounds, on the disc’s 15 tracks, sometimes making it welcoming to the ear, sometimes distancing, always exotic. Tisdale’s voice, ethereal and sometimes re-mixed and dubbed into self-duets, can comfort...

Robert Tolmach

Oh, my!
Beauty abounds! A beautiful idea; beautiful songs; and Christianne's beautiful voice. This is as good as it gets!
