Album Notes
Drummer/percussionist/composer Todd Isler began his career on pots and pans in Mark and Marilyn’s kitchen at the age of 5 and soon graduated to the basement, where the formal study of drums began. He was fortunate to have grown up in Cleveland, where there was a rich and eclectic music scene. His early studies were with Don Friedman in Cleveland and Lenny Nelson at Berklee College of Music in Boston. He later returned to Cleveland to play on the local Jazz circuit and study with South Indian Mridangam master Ramnod V. Raghavan at C.S.U.
Todd moved to NYC in the mid 80's and began to fuse jazz with world influences which won him the Disc makers unsigned band contest and the Jazziz magazine Percussion On Fire contest.
He released his first CD, "Two Step, Duets And Beyond" in '99. "Soul Drums" Is his second release as a leader. He has played on hundreds of recordings with his unique feel on drum set and percussion instruments such as the Hadgini, Kanjira, Uduboo, and frame drums of all kinds. Todd has also written several modern dance scores, and performs around NYC with his two groups: Toddsquad and Secret Stevie.
Soul Drums is a culmination of all of Todd's influences.
