Evocative of Moby and Oldfield with subterreanean organ dominating
As you may guess from tune titles, “Doleful Creatures, Owls and Satyrs” is a paraphrase of a Bible verse, and the sound often evokes massive cathedrals with some wonderful over-the-top organ, including the title cut (ironically one of the shorter cuts at nearly six minutes).

My favorite is “309 Million Miles to Earth,” the sort of grand space-themed epic you’d expect with a title like that: thumping percussion, tubular bells, and layers of keyboards ranging from chirping to quavering. Also tops is “Unto God, the Honour of his Name.” It begins with a plucked guitar and a singular whistling note for over eight minutes before crashing into a bombastic Phantom of the Opera/Davy Jones (a la the “Pirates” movie) pipe organ exercise for over six minutes. It’s great.

Two 10-minute plus tunes are “Chasing Przewalski’s Horse,” a pulsating synthesizer romp that gallops on, befitting the only remaining wild horse around. “Equus Caballus Forteana” echoes Mike Oldfield with its languorous keyboards that steadily build under a throbbing percussive beat. “Anvil of God” brings in more tubular bells with crashing keyboards in a hammering march. “Song of the Snallygasters” is a largely piano-driven layered synthesizer piece about a flying monster evocative of “Everything is Wrong” era Moby.

Lots of well-crafted music for the dollar here.

This is a Tremendous CD, I play it often!
This is a wonderful music gathering. I like that it is unusual and goes from doleful to exhuberant.

It has fast become one of my favorite cds, and I play it every day!
