Toddx is an Emcee from Toledo, Ohio. He has been involved in Hip-Hop music for over ten years as an artist, producer, writer, and engineer. He has released several albums, written countless songs, and played many live shows throughout the Mid-West.
While living in New York City Toddx recorded at The Hit Factory with a few different producers. Unsatisfied with the finished product he decided to save his money, move back home, and begin working on his own.
“I had a realization when I met Mos Def in Union Square in New York. That famous people are real people. They are famous not only because of a talent, but because of all the hard work they have done. The bottom line is this…if Mos Def can do it, I can do it.”
Strengthening his resolve he began to devote all his time to honing his craft not only as an emcee, but also as a songwriter and producer. In 2006 he began work on “The Toddx Files” which was released towards the end of the year. In the midst of promotion he decided to take on more responsibility and start his own independent record label. Eighteen Hundred Entertainment was co-founded by Toddx and fellow producer Elliot Simon. The First Release on Eighteen Hundred is Toddx’s new album “The Drug Years”.
“I wanted to make a crazy artistic album. An album nobody has ever heard before. I’m Hip Hop’s biggest fan, but to me it’s kind of stale right now. I wanted to make a modern album and bring flow back. I also wanted to lace it with some 70’s rock music. The live instrumentation hits the spot for me. However, I knew that right amount of synths and samples needed to be there to balance the live instrumentation. I knew it could backfire if I wasn’t careful, but I think I found the right blend to make it work. Overall, the album is a great experience. It has its highs and lows. It’s fun and smart. It feels real dark, but the sun comes out. It’s my life in a package.”
The Drug Years is due for release on February 29th 2008.
