I took Tommy Beau (my dad- Tom Bujacich) back to Hoboken,NJ last year - January 2005. Even though he only lives 15 miles away, he hadn’t been back to the town where he was born and raised in over a decade. He was so overwhelmed by all the new condominiums and transformation of the waterfront, that he just kept repeating, “I don’t know this town anymore.” As we continued to re-explore the streets, once in awhile he would make note of an unchanged building or a familiar family name on a sign that hearkened to the years of his childhood. By day's end, he started to rediscover his Hoboken: The Hoboken where he once shined shoes, cooked potatoes on the street during the depression, and where you could go to a dance any night of the week in a different church hall.
I think my father exemplifies the sound of the music from this classic era. After all, he was playing the same clubs in Hudson County, NJ when Frank Sinatra was breaking into the business. Because he grew out of these same streets, he fosters an authentic sound, yet delivers in his own unique style. I don’t know why it took us so long to get his music recorded, but I am sure glad that what started as a small demo, grew into a full-length CD.
Tommy Beau and I would like to thank Robert Melosh for his kindness and talent. (He is a blessing!) We also want to thank Joe Bilotti for all his fine guitar work and unfaltering support and love. We are also fortunate to have Nick Scheuble and Tony Dente contribute their time and talent to this project as well. And we must thank Rosie Bujacich for listening to the music through all its stages of development! We also are grateful to have a good neighbor like Art DeRose who shares his talent as photographer and graphic designer for this CD. I hope you enjoy listening to the music as much as we enjoyed making it!
