ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
TONI BROWN
Singer / Songwriter/ Guitarist / Producer / Festival Consultant

Rabbit Hole Soul is a departure from Toni Brown's first two releases, Blue Morning and Dare To Dream. This is a stripped down affair between her and the listener. Toni has opted for a gentle approach that highlights maturing vocals and the essence of her spirit. Intense songs of the heart make this Toni's most intimate effort.

Toni Brown spent most of her life in music's visceral fold. From 1980-2000, Toni was publisher of Relix Magazine, a bible amongst Dead Heads and a visionary link to "intelligent music alternatives." Relix effectively helped spawn the improvisational jamband scene and provided scores of new bands with the propulsion to jump-start their careers.

Toni has been touring for over ten years, appearing nationally at clubs, theaters and festivals, and has toured in Japan. She has shared the stage with Merl Saunders, Hot Tuna, Vince Welnick, Bela Fleck, Jazz Mandolin Project, David Nelson Band, Memphis Pilgrims, JGB, Tom Constanten, Illuminati, Zen Tricksters, Leftover Salmon, ekoostik hookah, Living Earth, New Riders of the Purple Sage, Buddy Cage, Max Creek, David Gans, Juggling Suns, Peter Rowan, Vassar Clements and many others.

Currently playing music and writing full time, Toni Brown has found her creative niche in the singer/songwriter tradition, weaving an evolving musical tapestry of soul drenched color and passion. Ethereal Folk Rock at its best.

Rabbit Hole Soul has been receiving airplay nationally, and she has been touring the eastcoast with her full band and special guest Tom Constanten (Grateful Dead keyboardist).

Toni Brown will open every emotion in your heart and soul.
Toni Brown will open every emotion in your heart and soul. Her songs portray pictures of characters in their settings. In every song and every performance what shines through is her LOVE for PEOPLE and HUMANITY.

Toni Brown has the talent to please every fan with the many music styles that she possesses. This artist is not just a musician, but a talented guitar player, vocalist and is an extraordinary songwriter. So when we talk about talent here we are talking a wide variety of talent, with an artist that pours her heart out into her lyrics, the vocals are excellent, and the engineering is very good..

I recommend that you purchase Toni Brown's 'Rabbit Hole Soul' CD, here are some outtakes on the CD:
** 'Shadow' - Toni has taken her songwriting talents and poured her heart and soul into this tune. The instruments, vocals are outstanding.
** 'Way you Talk' - this one caught my attention, I found the music soothing to my soul. And I liked the lyric arrangement.
** 'Blue Morning' - Now this one is absolutely a keeper. I found myself being pulled in with the lead guitar immediately. You get some folk soul with a blues feel, this is an excellent tune.

When you have a superb songwriter mixed with good vocals and excellent musicians behind you, this is the product of all that talent. But wait, there's more than just one CD - so make sure to check them all out, there's something for everyone!

I've caught myself with some of the tunes running through my head...
You have a great voice—very pure, rich, and clear. It sounds to me like you probably have perfect pitch too--you're not relying on vibrato to hit the notes. Your songs are very melodic and pleasing, and I've caught myself with some of the tunes running through my head! Your engineer did a great job of recording your voice. The mixing and production are first class too. –Chris Stone, Singer/Songwriter

I think this is Toni Brown's best work...
The CD is very, very good. I really like the sound of the acoustic piano and the mandolin. My favorite song on the album is "Sounds So Clear," FANTASTIC! What a song and what an arrangement. Other favorite songs on this CD are "Lights On" and "Blue Morning." But I like all the material. I think this is your best work!!! –Thomas Aubrunner, Musician, Vienna, Austria

Female country singers would do well to mine her catalog for album tracks
This is the Toni Brown album I've been waiting for, a wonderful collection of songs, tastefully produced, that for the most part, distances her from her Dead-based audience and firmly establishes her as her own artist for new fans.
Key to her new sound is producer Paul Harlyn's arrangements, in collaboration with Brown, that gently place her folkish singing among traditional instruments.
Songwriting is certainly her great strength, and female country singers of the day would do well to mine her catalog for album tracks. Mostly songs of longing and loneliness, the one cover, Donovan's "Catch The Wind," fits the format well and is, ironically, perhaps her best vocal work to date; on a personal note, after so many years and so many versions, hers was the first that made the song matter to me. And that may be the most endearing quality of Toni Brown the performer, that her sincere, heartfelt delivery makes every song so believable. –Jon Butcher, Musicologist/Journalist/DJ

Steve Ramirez

there is a definite sense of maturity and growth...
Toni Brown's latest musical effort sounds really good and the production/accompaniment works nicely to complement and enhance the tunes and performances. One of the things that makes this new CD impressive is the contrast with her two previous releases. This time around, she took the time to rethink her creative approach, and there is a definite sense of maturity and growth. –Steve Ramirez, Bass Player, Bay Area, California

Starr Sackstein

She really put her heart into this album, it is authentic and heartfelt.
I can feel the very personal nature of the whole album--it brings an intimacy to the music which makes the listener feel very close to you as a person. It has a similar effect to Joni Mitchell’s Blue album (which happens to be my favorite). She really put her heart into this album...so how could it be bad? It is authentic and heartfelt. Good work! –Starr Sackstein, Music Journalist
