ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
"Theresa Perez's unique gift is her propensity for captivation--vibrant, yet never verbose, Ms. Perez's music is as pervasively unaffected as the artist herself. "
- J. Kelly, www.jette-ives.com

There's a Perez I know
she's THEResA P.
sent her beats
to the box on my street
with beat box vox and strings
an "all together" new thing
causing hips to swing
and yes indeed
this "T" is hot
steeped in the north
infusing the west
drifting aromatic
and we are the blessed

(Stephen Beck, Chapel Hill, NC)

From slapping the guitar to Brazilian rhythms, to stomping feet in a fired frenzy while hammering a montuno away at the piano, this music never gets boring. Whether on guitar, piano, hand percussion, or a capella, this performer will capture your heart and stir your soul with her grace and energy.

"She sings from a place deep within with neither inhibition or fear. She pushes her breath around the lyrics breaking into beats and pauses and heat. She strums the guitar in steady confidence losing herself to the sound. She moves over piano keys with unusual grace her hands an extension of her smile.

Theresa Perez will be an artist to watch for years - her music at once playful and desperate her spirit both childlike and wise."
-Elizabeth Armstrong

"Solo artist Theresa Perez sings sweetly yet funktified, and soul drips from her fingers when she plays the guitar. But it is the piano through which she serves us an acoustic hot tamale. Theresa's music comes from an uncharted place off the map where cultures converge and unnecessary rules are stripped away. Strong Latin influences define a musical palette of modern/alternative folk speckled with jazz and other indefinables redolent of Ani Difranco. Spiritually charged lyrics layered with beatboxes and scats give Perez a sound uniquely satisfying on many levels."
-Olivia Kobelt

The culmination of the cultivation of the love dance wave
This CD puts you right in the room with some hot musicians laying down original grooves, and belting it out in a velvety roar. I'd give anything to jam along with this crew.

Cool, original, sexy music
The music is cool, fun to listen to, gets you moving, and also gets you thinking. It's intelligent, original music. Also very sexy and slinky. Theresa's voice is filled with confidence and an expression that is so personal, you feel she's letting you into her world as you listen to the music. It's a world you want to hear about...the world of the heart...interpreted through a very creative, witty, artistic intelligence. And very danceable. Love it.

A must have for any fun-seeking humanist
Teresa Perez and friends are giving us a gift with the recording of this CD, its dynamic rich sounds are creatively paired with witty happy love notes for the heart.

cunning, avant-garde and stealth.
This music lifts you to a place you have never been or have long forgotten. Spiritual, transcendant and moving. The slippery collaboration of funk and genuine soul is fullfilling and moving. Especially the tea is hot.

Tea Is Hot!
Among my favorite tracks are "grateful grapefruit" and "morning dew"... I like vocals and lyrics that have meaning. Which is why I also like Billie Holliday, Sara Vaughan, Ella, and many, many others. When you sing it's from the heart. I'm not a musician and cannot technically deconstruct a song to verbalize why I like it, so it's all about the feeling...

Spiritual, with a pop sensibility
The songs are groovy, funky and hip - progressive, yet folk at their core. Lyrics and vibe are of a spiritual nature or atleast authentic and soulful, but the music is all-encompassing. Anyone can listen to it and enjoy it. Highly recommend REPEATED listening...worth BUYING!
