ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes

Another gem from the Orlando-based Latin trio.
This second offering from Trio Agape gives us more songs that can be used in a Catholic context to evangelize a troubled society. The only reason for my not giving the album a fifth star is that the sound quality on the third track is not consistent, because the notes seem to go slightly off key in places. Too bad, since the third track is Divino Tesoro, the most powerful reminder of Christ's real presence in the Blessed Sacrament that I've heard in popular form in either English or Spanish. Fortunately, this variance in sound is slight enough not to detract much from the overall quality of the recording. The stylings of this trio on this and their first recording, Cristo Te Dice Ven (which I reviewed earlier on CD Baby), remind me of the work of such great artists as the Puerto Rican Trio Los Condes, except that here the romantic-sounding arrangements invite us to discover new life in Christ, rather than dealing sometimes excessively with cruel twists of fate like betrayals and love affairs gone wrong. In this way Trio Agape transforms this nostalgic musical style into a joyous and consoling view of the Christian experience. One can only hope that these two recordings will encourage many churches and Latino charismatic communities to invite this trio for concerts which should bring to Christ people who need the message, but who don't necessarily enjoy musical genres currently popular with Hispanic youth.
