Great finnish minimalistic nu-jazz with a folktouch

John Book, Music For America

Not easily categorized, electronics and real instrumentation become one. And fi
Tunto are a trio out of Finland are combine electronic textures with real instrumentation, which results in the kind of music that is much more than just bloops, bleeps, and thickly compressed beats. kevyt (AANI/Rockadillo) is jazzy at times, showing the influences of the members. The songs are are well composed and well arranged, and by not getting into anything in the verbal department, they allow their music to speak, leaving things to the interpretation of the listener. Some of these songs would do very well if used in film, although the theme of this album is the exploration of music themes (i.e "Rhino Music", "Confession Music", "Evening Music", "Museli-Musig"). They remind me of Supersilent, in terms of a group who want to take electronic or electronic-based music and move it into avenues that have never been driven on. Supersilent move towards jazz fusion and rock, while Tunto travel more into jazz territories. The mixtures become one, not just music that may not be properly balanced.
