At six years old, Mandi asked her mom to teach her to play the piano. She quickly learned to play chords and started singing along as soon as she could play.
One day her mom noticed that Mandi was playing a complicated rhythm that she had not taught her and asked her how she did that.
Mandi answered, “I just watched you.”
That was the moment that her mom knew Mandi had a natural ability.
At 7, she began singing in church and after watching the county fair talent show Mandi decided, “I am going to do that next year.”
At 8, she did enter the fair singing and playing a worship song on the piano. She lit up the stage and came in second place.
At 9, she entered the fair singing and playing a Christian song. She came in first and was pulled aside by one of the leaders of the talent show. She told Mandi to never forget that she had a gift, to always use it for the Lord, and to always sing what was on her heart.
Her excitement for singing multiplied after that show. That was in April 2011. In June of 2011, her mom showed her a video of a little boy playing the ukulele. Mandi was hooked.
She used her talent show award money to buy a ukulele and learned a song while still in the store. Then she learned a song in the car on the way home from the store. The next day, she spent 9 hours learning chords and strumming patterns and singing along.
Her mom heard her playing and singing and asked her if she could could put it on youtube.
She started getting comments on youtube and they encouraged her to keep playing and making videos. Most of the comments were about how great it was to see children singing for the Lord Jesus and to keep up the good work.
She made the decision to only sing songs that glorify the Lord. She will not sing songs about boyfriends, or anything that does not line up with the Word of God.
She has had some fun opportunities from her youtube videos, like getting to meet Christian award winning artist Jamie Grace and make a youtube video with her. Her little sister, Olivia, has joined in on some of the videos and adds a special sparkle with her smiles.
After about a year of being self taught on the ukulele, she started taking ukulele lessons. With the help of her ukulele teacher, she has written four songs which are on this CD.
Mandi also enjoys playing drums and being a back-up worship leader at her church.
She and her parents are excited to see what God has in store as she shares His love through her music.
