-US is a band of performers who are loosely knit together with David and Kelly Amrod at its core. The band has been around since 1985, with different incarnations coming together through different periods.
For this album, four of the original members joined together, with new (and integral) member Brian Arnold helping throughout.
-David Amrod grew up in a family of musicians. His brothers (and sometimes his sisters too) were often performing in one venue or another. When David was just a baby fresh out of the hospital, his brothers would play the Rolling Stones and the Beatles to put him to sleep for his naps. David developed an early appreciation for music that's with him to this day.
David has been writing and performing his music for over 20 years. He has played in New York, Germany, and the Boston area. His haunting lyrics and melodies are a blend of Pop, Rock, and Jazz. In his works you can feel his soul and spirit intertwined with the music.
-Kelly Amrod's clear, sweet voice has been known to send shivers and give goose-bumps. Mostly self-taught, Kelly would sing in the milk house growing up on her parents' dairy farm (great acoustics). She performed in school and community musical productions.
Kelly went on to college at S.U.N.Y. Geneseo, where she learned some finer points in the vocal programs there. Kelly met David at Geneseo, and found they made a good team. They went to Germany and worked with David's brother, Paul, on several pieces together.
Kelly has written several works of music over the years and credits God with her inspiration. She has performed solo, with other artists, and with the group, Us, in New York, the Boston area, and Germany.
-Paul Amrod is an accomplished pianist and composer who combines influences of Jazz and Rock to create his own unique blend of sound. Paul first performed in the group, Amrod Brand, in the 60's and 70's with his brother, Willy. The band had a strong following, and opened for such acts as Janis Joplin, The Paul Butterfield Blues Band, NRBQ. They also cut an album which to this day has a strong underground following. Meanwhile, Paul was also studying music at the world-renowned Juilliard School of Music in New York, where he received a Bachelor's in Music. In 1980, after seven years in the New York Jazz scene (with Dave Sanborn, the Brecker Bros., Danny and Chris Brubeck, Bob Berg, Corky Lang, Buster Williams, and others) he returned to Juilliard and earned his Master's Degree in Composition.
He has written arrangements for A&M Records and was a Studio pianist for Columbia Records.
Since 1981, Paul has been living and performing in Germany. as a conductor for musicals, arranging in theaters, touring as Fats Waller in the show "Lenox Ave", in Vienna and Berlin. He composed his own Jazz/Rock Opera for the Theater am Turm in Frankfurt. He has been a director of Gospel Choirs, Musical Director in "Pfalz Theater Kaiserslautern" and in "Stadttheater Mainz".
Paul has appeared on TV in New York and in Germany. He is well-know for his performances in Mainz and Hagen of "Rhapsody in Blue" as a solo pianist and conductor. In 1992 he founded and put out a CD with the jazz group, The Purple Elephant. In 1995 he formed the funk band "Denis Do-Groove Band" and "Too Cold" with Steve Hooks. He performed on the CD "Children of the Earth" with his brother Willy, along with the JB Horns, Fred Wesley, Maceo Parker and Pee Wee Ellis. In 1998 he produced the Sisters K's Maxi. Since 1997 Paul has dedicated more of his time to contemporary music. Among the many works he has composed are 5 symphonies and two piano concertos, and a reorchestration of the "West Side Story".
-Alexander Toups has performed his unique blend of Jazz and Rock guitar throughout Germany for more than twenty years.
This German native has impressed audiences for years with his effortless sense of rhythm and his cool style. An original member of US when it began in 1985, he continues to inspire.
-Brian Arnold is a very spiritual, humble man with an incredible ear for music. He has played both the U.S. and the Asian scene. His sense of musical balance in both the composition and the mix were an invaluable addition to the band. Brian's Rock and Funk guitar added color and dimension to the music he played in.
