Album Notes
VAGABOND OPERA, a unique ensemble, plays Eastern-European, klezmer-based original, jazz and belly dance music with skill, exuberance, and a gritty vagabond edge. Eric Stern, operatic tenor, accordionist, pianist, and composer leads the band (accordion and vocals, saxophone, cello, upright bass, percussion) as they play songs about thieves, Jewish weddings, Parisian tramps and the enigmatic Marlene Dietrich. Every show is a cabaret of rich musical phrasing, sparkling lyrics and indomitable stage presence.

In four years of performance in the Northwest VAGABOND OPERA has built a dedicated following, the eclecticism of its music and mastery of genres luring audiences and creating fans. The Willamette Week called VAGABOND OPERA "...a six piece of alienated classicists and romantic bohemians. Gypsy music, opera, klezmer and cabaret come-ons mingle like emigres trading aliases at an after-hours night club. It's highly cultured."

Fun Listening
Vagabond Opera have out done themselves on this CD. Great rhythms to move to. Fun and interesting lyrics. Altogether a great CD.

A sweet sweet sound for your ears...
this cd is so amazing , it captures all of the true vaudeville vagabond spirit of the day and i m very glad that i heard of this band because there music is the best i've heard in years... keep your spirit flowin...

Really fun CD. Reminds me of the live performance.
The presentaion is a mix of performance recordings and studio cuts but it is presented as if it were a live performance. The chatter at the beginning of Riverboat Queen is fun but gets old after repeated listenings (I adore the song). I bought a copy for a friend but it's his 12 year old daughter LOVES it . . . and she's never seen the band! I play it on shuffle mode and am always delighted by the new order of songs. Truly a fun treat.

Excellent CD - loads of fun!
Some of the most tantalizing, lively music I've heard in a long time! Wow, they really got the stuff! The CD was referred to me by my sister who saw a live show. Hope they come to Vancouver, BC to play!
