Van Cleef Continental is an Italian band (from the city of Brescia, Northern Italy) which plays rock and roll and sings in English.
Andrea Van Cleef (a guy!) is the leader of the band. He’s well known in the Italian rock scene as singer and bass player for underground heroes The Bogartz.
Van Cleef Continental is the new band he created in 2005, when the Bogartz disbanded.
He still sings and plays bass guitar (as well as electric guitar and mandolin) in the record, together with Lady Cortéz, on piano and organ duties, and a bunch of friends who helped to shape the sounds of the “Red Sisters”.
From the album beginning “Anna Lee” to the nightmarish “Fear of waking up”, which closes the selection, we are captured by a dark waltz of fractured images, whose shattered pieces, at the end, perfectly picture the game of multiple personality portrayed by the songs’ lyrics and landscapes.
Sonically we dangerously flow between the sonic attacks of “white woman” and “junior bonner” (does anybody remember THAT movie?) to the sweet, heart-on-a-sleeve, songwriting of “mad love” and “dry queens”.
Ranging from the 60’s (not peace-and-love 60’s, we mean the Doors, the Animals, Love) to the USA underground of the 80’s (Uncle Tupelo, Run westy run, Thin white rope), the music of Van Cleef Continental is well represented in this CD, as well as in the incendiary shows the band (Andrea, Lady Cortéz, Ginger Jerry on drums and El Buitre on electric guitar is the line up) is nowadays performing all over Italy and Northern Europe.
We hope you’ll be charmed by the red sisters.
