vernal shepherd has been an accomplished musician for most of his life. his unique style of playing the bass lead to his starting a band at a young age. the name of that band was light touch and they successfully released an album in 1982. with the release of this album and local performances vernal gained fame in his hometown of chicago where he was born. also having the opportunity to play with accomplished musicians vernal expanded his talents to include playing the lead guitar, drums and keyboard.
now a resident of kalamazoo, michigan vernal has had the opportunity to further his musical talents by being an active musician in his church and also a lead instrumentalist in the church's singing group. he was the opening act for famed gospel artist ben tankard in 1998,also performing with damian dame who went on to be signed under the laface label. vernal performed with other local artists and poets putting background music to their spoken word forms. vernal's soundtracks have also been used in the movie "tha game don't last forever" which was filmed here in kalamazoo and is available on video.
a single entitled "authority" from vernal's "melodies of praise" cd placed among the top 1500 songs and gained high praise on an evaluation from billboard's song contest and also received an honorable mention from billboard.
