On June 11, 2008, Pop Detective Records released VIBEKE “The World Famous Hat Trick”. Originally self released in Norway on Sprettball Records, the album has been completely re-mastered in the USA. Two additional bonus tracks have been added (covers of The Someloves “Know You Now” and an unreleased gem from Frank Secich and Jimmy Zero (Dead Boys) called “You Don’t Go Away”). Also included is the video for “He’s Peculiar”…a very retro-cool video that screams party all the way through! All of this presented in a vibrant digi-pack with bonus “stills” from the video!
VIBEKE is quite the music veteran even at her young age! She came to Norwegian prominence singing with a band called Weld in 1994. Weld was signed to EMI and released 2 albums and one EP, also winning a Norwegian Grammy. VIBEKE left Weld in order to pursue her own musical direction, and formed the short-lived Thelyblast and subsequently, Thinkerbell. Thinkerbell was a decidedly laid back, lyrically and musically mellow record. VIBEKE’s true calling has always been Power Pop / Rock and Roll, and so she decided to attack the genre full tilt under her own name, Vibeke Saugestad. The result was two fantastic solo albums on major labels Sony and Universal in Norway. Although very popular in Norway, VIBEKE was not able to cross the border and expand her popularity outside of her home country. She decided to take control of her own destiny by releasing a 3rd solo album on her own label, Sprettball, in Norway. Mark Hershberger of Pop Detective Records USA, a longtime fan of VIBEKE’s work, jumped at the opportunity to release “The World Famous Hat Trick” in the USA! And, the completely re-mastered album, along with two bonus covers and a music video, is now available on Pop Detective Records in the USA and, via distribution channels, in Japan as well! This is Vibeke’s first USA and Japanese release!
VIBEKE also plays keyboards for bubblegum / power pop / punk band The Yums Yums (another legendary Norwegian band) and, in her spare time, sings in the garage / soul group, The Twistaroos!
