This is the third recording by harpist Victoria Drake. Inspired by some of Alicia de Larrocha's playing of Mompou, Victoria researched and explored a large volume of works to bring this collection together. It has a broad range of colors and emotions, bringing out the many aspects of the Spanish music idiom in brilliant translation onto the harp. This CD was recorded on the Scoring Stage at Skywalker Ranch in California.

This review is from: Spanish Gold: Spanish Music for Harp [HDCD] (Audio CD)
Harpist Victoria Drake presents a wonderful program of Spanish music that would make any classical guitarist proud. This recital of works by de Falla, Albeniz, Granados and others, so often heard on the guitar and piano, has a beautiful sound all its own on the harp and makes it seem as though the composers wrote their music expressly for this instrument. The harp gives a natural sound for most music but lends a certain poignancy for the music of the Iberian peninsula, evoking different colors and textures as deftly as Andres Segovia or Julian Bream. Francisco Tarrega's popular classic work, "Recuerdos de la Alhambra" is beautifully interpreted by Drake and is one of the highlights of this exceptional CD.

If you love to enjoy the sound of a great recording, this album has it all. Amazing acoustics make this harp sound ten feet tall. The music is transfixing. An album to love.
