ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
LIMITED EDITION COPIES with WATER and FISH in the cover!

"Vox strums and charms her way through 12 tunes that alternately swing back to the Jazz Age and push forward into indie-rock territory.... exploring the instrument's propulsive potential. I've never heard, or seen, anything quite like Exact Change." - John Lewis, Baltimore Magazine (Aug. 2010)

"Vox pushes the little instrument into expressive new territory." - David Dudley, Urbanite Magazine (Aug. 2010)

"This is one fun, funky album. Vox's songs are catchy and clever, backed by hook-laden melodies... the album's a jewel... indie recording at it's best." - Michael Dregni, Vintage Guitar Magazine (Sept. 2010)

All songs by Victoria Vox, except "Beautiful Home" by Jonathan Spottiswoode & Victoria Vox, "Technicolor Way by James Hall & Victoria Vox, "French Cafe" by Herb Ohta & Jim Beloff, and "The Birds" by Anne Chandler.

Dr. Kent Gustavson

The Best Folk Album of 2010...
Even if the singing and playing on this album weren't sublime (which they are), it would be worth it to take a copy of this record home! Filled with liquid - what a brilliant concept - apropos, given the fluidity of her smoke-and-honey voice.

Vox's singing is clever and fresh, and the sound of her band is tight and quirky. When was the last time we heard the sound of piano and ukelele blending in grooves that are one foot in funk and the other in shimmering folk-pop.

Perhaps it's the addition of the ukelele, or perhaps it's simply inherent in Vox's style, but her tunes, whether melancholy, cheerful, drunken or pious, always have the brow-wrinkles of an emerging smile. This is uplifting and wonderful music.

I have a new favorite album, and with the variety of sounds on this record, it will stay in my car's stereo for a long time to come. (And I can't stop playing with the little fish swimming around in the cover's fluid cover!)
