Album Notes
"Considered by some to be his masterpiece, Vinny presents his most philosophically and musically challenging collection of songs to date. A very well produced album from start to finish!"

Peer into the mind of "The Grand Philharmonic Homunculus"

who is Mr. Vinny Davis.

Vinny Davis is a self taught, multi-talented musician with quite an unconventional approach to making records.

He has been most commonly compared to the late Frank Zappa,

whom he lists as one of his influences in addition to, Todd Rundgren,

Kate Bush and The Beatles.

Between 1989-1996 Davis used to record under his own label

Frighteningly Original Records. From his mom’s Bronx basement

home studio, Vinny recorded anything and everything under a slew

of pseudo-band aliases like; REAR, AIRBRAND, KINDER GENTLER

Davis, not unlike "The Keebler Elf", created an assembly line for

record making. Churning away, song after song, with some

assistance from a stable of unstable musicians, entertainers

and outpatients. This established F.O.R. as a very prolific indie label.

After many funny and favorable reviews, a small fan base within NYC

began to pop up mysteriously, which has been likened to a case of scabies.

In 1999 Vinny went back to making records for his" subterranean

sucklings" as he so affectionately called them, while making a living

as a freelance cartoonist/teacher. During this time, Vinny lived and

worked in Westchester recording for Soundview Square Garden Records (his home studio) "We Were Happy On The Prairie" (1999), "Succumb-

Lit- Creek" (2000), "The Daily Haze" (2003), "Open Me Up"(2003), "Music

From, The Nightmare We Shared" (2003), "Spillage In The Village" (2004),

and "In The Direction You’re Falling"(2006).

Bandless, you will find Vinny Davis do an occasional solo open mic somewhere in the west village(NYC), or maybe somewhere down the block from you.

Why he is such a phantom in the live arena of music, nobody knows.

His most recent release, "20 Gold Neglectables" is a bogus collection of his

"greatest hits" from his "Soundview years".

Vinny is planning to release a collection of tunes from his 1989-1996 F.O.R. years titled, "The Grand Philharmonic Homunculus". Vinny promises, "It will sound primitive", and "He will preserve the original 4 track cassette sound for the underground purists who enjoyed them so many trips ago."

Vinny Davis currently lives in Fleetwood NY with his fiance’ Jennie and his dog Skippy.

Point yourself in the direction of Vinny Davis' album!
This album is an excellent nine-song cycle, more so than just a collection of songs. The bright, clear production, the sweet but tough vocals (reminiscent of Billy Joel and John Lennon at their most ascerbic), unusual but poignant lyrical portraits, and musical arrangements that provide a ear-catching, oftimes unnerving and challenging, but always compelling listen -- an album that deserves repeated listening and a good pair of headphones. Vinny Davis indeed has 'made 'em like they used to' - that is, made an album meant to be heard start to finish, full attention required. I look forward to more great music by him -- may that be soon.

Standout track - "Prince of the Lonesome Island"

Just who does this little freak think he is?
I love this cd. I find myself haunted by some of these songs, sometimes in a good way, sometimes in a freaky way. Very original sound. It makes me what to pick up this cd and some of his other work. The most authentic music since Daniel Johnston.

If you buy one Vinny Davis CD, this should be it!!!
I've been a fan of Vinny Davis and his music since the early 90's (found him through "The Musician's Exchange" a now defunct music newspaper in NYC) and his early sound was nothing like I ever heard before. His mixture of instrumentals and unconventional sound effects gave him that extra something like Zappa had(big fan, too!)and Captain Beefheart. This new CD still has some of his early influence, but he's developed into a complete musician and producer on this one. Everyone looking for solid musical content and artistry should buy this CD!!
