ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Voicechanger is the brainchild of Scot David Porter, and since its birth, Scot has been busy fathering and nursing a life-long ambition of musical endeavors. He has been involved in many sound projects for the last couple of years including but not limited to: performing percussion with the rock outfit Nazca Lines, sequencing and programming for electronica-fueled Wunderbugg, being a semifinalist in the EMP's 2006 SoundOff Competition, starting and contributing a handful of other projects (such as The Organized Sound Project, Manifest Destiny, Death By DJ/Imaginary Friends, just to name a few), and studying technology and art at the University of Washington on the side. Prior to these events, Scot got a jump start with Voicechanger by composing music and sound for the documentary, Dubbed, in the summer of 2004. On top of these activities and at the core of this biography, Voicechanger released his debut album in June 2007, featuring collaborations with former professor and pedal steelist Mike Grigoni and singer/songwriter Kyle Michael Porter.
By description, 'The Tragedy of Utilitas & Venustas' acts as a deep and introspective exploration of noise that simultaneously latches onto the familiarity and unpredictability of the vast Western musical culture. With this album, Voicechanger acts as the conduit for Scot's interpretation of music and life. So, with an attentive and willing ear, Voicechanger's process of forging various ideas blossom into colorful, shapeshifting, and explosive sounds and images.
