Five Run Away Together

by Vox Merus

Five Run Away Together is a short, snappy, yet varied piece for brass quintet. It opens with a fanfare, moves through a quick ostinato-driven section, before exploring some of the melodic resources of the ensemble in a more relaxed andante. This gives way to a return of the quick material from earlier, and the piece ends with an up-tempo recall of the opening fanfare. The juxtaposition of these various moods and styles results in a piece which is at times rhetorical, dramatic, peaceful, and hopefully engaging!
