Sincere and transparent are words that describe Michele Wagner. Michele is a nationally known contemporary Christian recording artist who grew up in Cleveland, Ohio. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree as a music major, voice principal and piano minor, from Ohio State University in 1983.
She writes songs about hope to help heal and restore the broken hearted. She states that her songwriting is a, "natural overflow from her relationship with the Lord”. The listener will notice a theme of hope for a broken hearted world. Her songs communicate that one's self-worth and value can only be found in Christ.
“Growing up in Cleveland, Ohio, our family did not talk a lot about God. I had wonderful things but I struggled with my own self-worth and had insecurities and needed affirmation from others. One day at church as a young girl two verses in the sermon spoke to me. They were Revelations 3:20 and Romans 10:9-10. I sensed the Lord knocking at my heart and after kneeling and praying to the Lord to believe, I experienced an incredible peace. I was changed. I simply believed Christ died for me, that nothing I did earned my salvation. Later, as a senior in high school, I recommitted to make Jesus, Lord of my life. I realized that my worth and value was not in others, or anything else in this world, but found only in the Lord. I surrendered all to Him and gave Him all of my life”.
Michele's ministry objective is to write and sing songs of hope to broken and wounded hearts and tell them they are healed and freed forever only through the love of Christ. Her entire career in music started from her relationship with Him. Michele states that, “No matter how many songs or records I produced or how successful or unsuccessful they are, the most important thing is my knowing Christ and His love for me”.
She moved to Nashville, Tennessee in 1984 to begin her music career. She signed on as a staff songwriter with Meadowgreen Music Publishers in 1985. In 1989 the Benson Music Group signed Michele to a recording contract and she released her first self-titled album in 1989. Christian Research Report, a national music journal, named Michele as the country's best new artist that year.
Michele's first, self-titled album, and her second album, A Heart That's Free, contained four number one national hits, “You’re Beautiful”, Simple Devoted and True, Jesus Answers”, and her third album, entitled Safe Place, was named by Pulse Magazine as one of the 10 best Christian albums in 1992. Michele was selected to be the vocalist for the nation's largest National Day of Prayer observance held in Cleveland, Ohio in 1992. CBS television stated in their evening broadcast, "Michele Wagner had those attending the observance enraptured by her performance.” CBS requested that Michele be the talent for the only major network TV advertisement for the 1993 observance. The ad was produced around the chorus of Michele's song, "I Will Pray for You”.
Her fourth album titled, “Heart of the Journey”, included her first music video, available on YouTube, for the title song, "Heart of the Journey". This was the theme song for the 1994 National Acteen Convention held in Birmingham where Michele was the guest artist, and was featured on the ACTS Cable Network's, "Faith and Values" program.
Michele's fifth CD entitled "Michele Wagner - A Collection" is a compilation of Michele's four previously released CD's.
Michele describes Michele’s sixth recording, “A Miracle of Hope”, as "intimate and reflective personal prayers that invite the listener on a healing journey with the Lord”. Passionate and worshipful, these 14 songs reveal God’s truth amidst our own weakness and brokenness. These songs allow you to experience God’s embracing love.
Michele’s most recent recording “Blind Now I See” contains nine new songs. They are an overflow from reading scripture passages from God’s word while listening to Him. These songs, written from God’s truth, nourish the listeners’ soul and draw them to the intimate, victorious healing love of Jesus.
Michele, her husband Gregg, and their son Christopher presently reside in Broadview Heights, Ohio and attend Cuyahoga Valley Church where Gregg is the Administrative Pastor and Michele ministers in music. Michele's song about her marriage to Gregg, "Nothing is Going to Stop This Love," states "a godly man is worth the wait”! In the song about her son which Michele wrote, “Christopher”, Michele sings, “to think the Lord loved you enough to die, and to think that He can love you more than I, oh baby, Christopher He loves you so, Jesus loves you so”.
