Altrisuioni Records has announced the March 3rd, 2006, release of The Chasper Wanner Quartet Featuring Danny Gottlieb. It is the first pairing of the two jazz entities, and on it Gottlieb’s sophisticated drumming fuses perfectly with Wanner’s guitar-based modern combo on every cut from the lyrical, moody “Softening” to the percolating groove of “Crave.” Wanner’s compositions show his love for sound coloring, improvisation, and lyrical chamber music, making The Chasper Wanner Quartet Featuring Danny Gottlieb an exceptional sampling of fresh approaches to modern jazz. The album was recorded in Basel, Switzerland, with Wanner on guitar, Wolfgang Zwiauer on bass, Alex Hendriksen on sax, and Danny Gottlieb on drums. The CD is available through CDBaby in the U.S. and in Europe via www.noretro.ch, www.altrisuoni.com, and in record stores.
Chasper Wanner has released half a dozen projects ranging from modern jazz to fusion, chamber music, pop, soundscapes and loops to his recent solo focus of crossing classical with jazz. He began his musical career as a drummer but switched to guitar as a teenager, and proceeded to study under world-renowned jazz and classical guitarists in Switzerland and the United States. Wanner is also the founder of the experimental Notretro record label. Not even 35 years old, Wanner has already succeeded in making exciting and lasting contributions to modern jazz.
Danny Gottlieb is one of the most popular drummers in jazz and contemporary music. While best known as the drummer in the original Pat Metheny Group, during the past 25 years Danny has performed and recorded with greats such as the Stan Getz Quintet, Gil Evans Orchestra, Herbie Hancock, Sting, David Byrne and a host of others and has also appeared on many instructional drum DVDs. Of his experience making this recording he comments, “Chasper Wanner is a wonderful musician and I had a fantastic experience participating in this project. I hope everyone will enjoy this exciting and special combination of musicians and material.”
