Album Notes
In the Chinese zodiac, the dragon is a symbol of strength and harmony. Not surprisingly the two leaders of Year of the Dragon, Roderick "Rodcore" Palmer, and Walter Adam Kibby, II AKA Dirty Walt, were born within days of each other under that sign.

Rodcore, has had various starts and stops with different incarnations of YOTD in the past between stints with other Los Angeles based bands, but it was not until Dirty Walt left the band that he co-founded and co-led for over twenty-five years, Ska-Punk-Funk legends Fishbone, along with fellow Fishbone solider guitarist Spacey T, that the seeds of the current YOTD were planted.

In 2006, the three recorded and self-released an EP, A Time To Love Is A Time To Bleed which received critical acclaim and sold well through the internet and at shows. Wanting to take things to the next level, Dirty Walt and Rodcore, put together a regular band and started gigging weekly around Los Angeles and the surrounding areas, capitalizing on Fishbone's loyal fan base and attracting new fans of their own with YOTD's own brand of hardcore with a funk groove and soulful tag team vocals.

Around this time, the band began a partnership with a start-up indie label, The International Brotherhood of Consequential Truth that would result in the brand new YOTD release, Blunt Force Karma, the band's first full-length. Now full partners in the label, which also released Dirty Walt's second solo record and first since leaving Fishbone, Still Smokin' earlier this year, YOTD controls their own destiny.

Recorded in LA, Blunt Force Karma is the product of that freedom and their years in the game. Thirteen songs recorded with drummer, Kerim Imes, bassist Elliott Lawrence, and guitarists Jason "JMR" Richardson and Spacey T, Blunt Force Karma is a pure, uncut assault on the mind and spirit.

Good Stuff...
This does not know that there will be grooves, but there are also good songs here. hard stuff and worthy of any fishbone soldier's mp3 player...

Good fusion of progessive rock/ funk/hip-hop
Very Good style of fusion, with elements of metal, hip-hop, funk.......There is something on this project for everyone, The band does some one of a kind arrangments on all tracks. My favorite is sex and smoke it has a pedulunm swing that makes me think about; Jermain Dupree meets Pantera. MONEY WELL SPENT!

Marc "M^2" McCoy

In the age of the American Idiot the truth shines through.
It's nearly impossible to capture this kind of energy in a recording but here you have it. A truely versital dynamic offering. ** WARNING WHEN PLAYED EXTREMELY LOUD YOU MIGHT JUST WAKEUP **

Hopefully this Dragon has more than one year...
On "A Time to Love...", Walt and Spacey T bring forth the energy and talent with which they left such an undeniable imprint on the Fishbone legacy. The songs are a perfect mix of heavy, eclectic and funky but define their own voice despite anything that may be expected from their pedigree. As artists who refuse to allow themselves to be pigeon-holed either internally or externally, YOTD really bring the noise with this release. Shame it's only six's looking forward to more.

May This Year of the Dragon be a Long One!
Hard songs, groovy songs, songs that are both; and I like them all. I sure hope they make more in the future.

Simply Amazing!
This is yet another great record in the history of black rock. Tracy Singleton's guitar work is excellent as usual and Walt brings that funk and reggae vibe that only he could. Rodcore's vocals are growing on me with a quickness. This album is in heavy, heavy, HEAVY rotation right now. It's the Year!

Strong, funky effort
Year of the Dragon has declared its independence from Fishbone, but it's clear that they remain strong philosophical and musical allies. Dirty Walt, Spacey and all the rest should be very proud of this effort that is musically tight, diverse, dynamic and just plain fun to listen to. Personal favorite is "Take Your Time".

awesome stuff, flying the flag for Black Rock baby!
Awesome stuff, flying the flag for Black Rock baby! Cant wait for for more from Dirty Walt, Spacey T and the Dragon crew.
