ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
"Merging modern and 19th Century styles,Yiling Huang reminds us our roots lie with thoses who have gone before and sacrificed to make us who we are. Her work is a tribute to the many women who have gone before, unrecognized for their struggles"

" Life experiences transformed into emotional solo piano compositions that inspire enchant and move the spirit " - Paul Speer

Many people have asked about my music but I find it is so difficult to explain the meaning of my pieces. All I know is that the inspiration comes from deep within my heart and the music is played with my spirit and my soul.

It has been a long journey for me. Expressing this in words is difficult but through music, I am able to tell my story, the story of "A Woman's Journey".

Yiling Huang

Biography of Yiling Huang

Born in Taiwan, Yiling Huang developed an interest in music at a ripe young age, but her musical legacy did not begin until the age of seven when her parents enrolled her in piano lessons.

Inspired by Beethoven and Schubert, Chopin, Yiling knew since elementary school that her desire and love for music should to be continue its nurture in Austria. So, at the adolescent at the age of 16, Yiling moved to Austria to attend the prestigious Vienna University of Music and Fine Arts (Hochschool fur Music und Darstellende Kust in Wien). Then in 1988, she went on to earn a Degree in Piano Performance. During her eight -year -stay in Austria, Yiling gained many life long Austria friends as well as toured countless museums, attended numerous concerts and participated in several music seminars.

A year after her graduation in Austria, Yiling moved to America to study at the New England Conservatory in Boston where she later received a Master of Music Degree of Piano Performance

On January 2003, Yiling submitted her compositions to Paul Speer and four days later she recived an email from him with an invitation for a meeting. Then in March the recording began and not a moment goes by when she is not inspired to compose new pieces.

Yiling also invests her talent in adults or children who have the desire to learn piano. She teaches private piano lessons to students with the philosophy that states, "Playing the piano is more than just playing each note. It is a way for an individual to express himslf or herslf through music." With Yiling's guidance students are encouraged to play their music on an emotional level rather than on a mechanical level, and thus allowing the students to attain the skill to play music naturally and spiritually which in turn becomes a part of them for their entire lives.

Currently, Yiling is inspired to compose more music, even more passionate, dynamic, powerful, spiritul, no longer just writing music based on her past, but creating music that reflects her new found connection to life. She is very blessed that her music has the potential to touch people's hearts and spirit throughout their life.

Amazing and inspiring, this music touches the soul and makes you want to listen
This music is created on a Bosendorfer piano, and that in itself is truly amazing, these piano's are called the Mercades of piano's because each one is hand made in Austria. To play one requires talent and classical training. Yiling's Bosendorfer creates landscapes and sonic journeys that can only be described as heaven on earth. I love listening to her music and meditating on
her sonic productions. You to will love her music as I do.

Classical stylings with contemporary music
“A Woman’s Journey” is the recording debut of Yiling Huang. Classically trained in Taiwan, Austria, and the US, Huang’s music is very structured and finely-crafted. The album was produced by Paul Speer (formerly with David Lanz), and performed on a Bosendorfer piano. Most of the sixteen pieces are quite short and very classical in feeling, and each tells a slightly different story. Some of these are about events in Ms Huang’s life, experiences in nature, and a very deep spiritual relationship with a soul mate or loved one. Several stories are set in the 19th century, and the influence of that period of music is very apparent. All of the selections are solo piano, and a few have nature sounds woven into the music (water, birds, rain).

The title track opens the CD. Realizing that we all have a different journey through life, there are also many common emotions we all experience. This piece is a musical reflection of many of these emotions, from tender to turbulent. “Riversong” is very interesting in that it makes a lot of harmonic changes that really aren’t expected, much as a river can be unpredictable - a lovely piece! “Interlude 1” is a bittersweet piece that has a lovely melody flowing over an arpeggiated left hand. Reflective and emotional, I like this one a lot, too. “Freedom” tells the story of a 19th century woman who is determined to leave her unhappy life behind. Energetic and moving, you can sense the determination as this woman packs her bags, mounts her horse, and rides off to follow her dreams. “New Horizon” is my favorite track. Strong and hopeful, there is the feeling of elation that comes with a new beginning and a fresh start. I also really like “Rain Song,” a lively but gentle appreciation for the beauty and melody raindrops create.

“A Woman’s Journey” is a very promising debut!

Uplifting for the Soul.
Merging modern and 19th Century styles, Ms. Huang reminds us our roots lie with those who have gone before and sacrificed to make us who we are. Her work is a tribute to the many women who have gone before, unrecognized for their struggles.

It offers peace in a time that threatens our very being. It is time to enjoy the pleasures of good music.

As Joachim Berendt said in the title of his book: "Nada Brahma: The World is Sound" this, and more can be said of Ms. Huang's work. "A Woman's Journey" is sound and its vibration is changing the world in ways of peace and love.
