Singer, songwriter, producer, multi-instrumentalist, and minister Daniel Young is the multi-talented front-man of The Daniel Young Music Ministry (formed in 2006). Daniel has taken the Detroit Gospel music scene by storm, and is now branching out across the nation. First, in 2006 with his solo debut release “Let You Know”, Daniel had two chart topping singles on Detroit’s Gospel Radio Top 20 Countdown. And now, with his sophomore release entitled “Surrender” featuring his band of musicians and singers, Daniel is on the verge of a national breakthrough. With his personal lyrics accompanied by a mix of classic R&B with urban beats, this pioneer of R&P (Rhythm and Praise) will surely be around for years to come.
Daniel Young was born on March 6, 1978 in Detroit, Michigan to George and Ella Young. As a young child, Daniel displayed great musical talent while singing in various churches across Detroit. By the age of 11, Daniel began playing the saxophone, and by age 15, he began playing the piano in his father’s church. Daniel continued in his musical quest and earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education. In addition to ministering in song, Daniel teaches music at Detroit Academy of Arts and Sciences.
Daniel decided to begin the Daniel Young Music Ministry, after realizing that he had obtained a group of talented and loyal friends that helped him on his first CD release concert in 2006. The musicians and singers continued to minister in song with Daniel as he ministered in various venues after his debut. As a result of their faithfulness to ministry, and their growth as a unit, he added music ministry to his name. Therefore, the name Daniel Young Music Ministry includes the entire unit instead of a solo artist.
Daniel’s influences streams from a long list of gospel favorites, such as The Winans, The Clark Sisters, Commissioned, Take 6, The Williams Brothers, and The Mighty Clouds of Joy. Daniel was also heavily influenced by his father, as he watched is father rehearsing weekly with a gospel quartet (The Emmanuels). The Emmanuels opened doors for Daniel to sing across the country while still in elementary.
Not only is Daniel paving his way to new levels in gospel music, but he is also a preacher and teacher of the Word of God. He began preaching and teaching at the age of 20. By the age of 24, he served as Assistant Pastor at Restoration Church in Detroit, until joining with his brother at New Vision Cathedral of Praise in 2005. Daniel now serves as Minister of Music at Kadesh Full Gospel Baptist Church in Detroit, Michigan.
In addition to all the other tasks that Daniel has set out to achieve, he is also a loving and devoted husband and father of two children. When not rehearsing, writing, producing, or ministering, Daniel loves to spend time with his family.
