The Biography of Yvonne Johnson
Yvonne “The Song Bird”
Yvonne Johnson, affectionately known as “Sister J.” was born in the beautiful island of Jamaica. She then migrated to the United States at the age of fourteen.
Yvonne recognized that she had a unique voice for singing at an early age, and her family did not hesitate to support her dreams. Yvonne’s singing career quickly advanced. She then joined a group in New York City called “Ephesians”. She performed with Ephesians in local concerts and also at Cornell University back in the 1980’s. In 1992, she appeared as the guest artiste for a gospel concert in the island of Montserrat. In the year 2000, Yvonne appeared as the guest artiste for four concerts held in England. In the year 2002, she won the talent contest on the Explorers of The Seas. In the years 2003 and 2004, she performed at several concerts in Miami, Florida and her singing career continues to progress. She resides in the city of Miami where she attends a growing apostolic church. In her church, Yvonne was the choir leader for over seven years. She also directed the ladies choir in her church for over four years. With this God sent talent, Yvonne has had the opportunity to direct choirs for other assemblies in the past. Not only does she have the gift of singing, she is also a true praise and worship leader. She knows how to lead an audience into worship, I mean the inner court, and indeed she has a passion for God and her music.
Yvonne likes different types of gospel music such as Reggae, Contemporary, Worship songs, Jazz and Classical, just to name a few.
Yvonne released her first CD on November 13, 2004. On the release of her new CD “Fly Away,” her song “Loose Her,” is a big hit. People from all over is requesting this song. Yvonne wrote this song for a ladies retreat at her church and since then everyone fell in love with it. The song is basically about women who are bound by life’s struggles and is being encouraged by the song to be loosed by Jesus Christ and to never give up, comes what may.
Her greatest desire is to minister in songs to the lost and dying generation who are without Christ and to also help restore those who have fallen from grace to return to their rightful place in God. Sister Johnson is opened to any opportunities that will not jeopardize her faith. She accepts the challenge to travel occasionally should the need arise.
She truly bears the name “Song Bird”. God knew what He was doing when He blessed her with the gift of singing. Yvonne is known to pick up a dead song and bring it back to life through the anointing of Jesus Christ. Yvonne brings justice to every song she sings and so may God continue to bless her as she continues to reach the lost and dying world that needs Christ.
