Lumière dans le noir (Light in the dark) is Zachary Richard's 15th album. The album is an eloquent testimony of hope. Inspired by hurricane Katrina, by the genocide of Rwanda, by the plight of the beluga whales of the Saint Laurence valley, by the terrible history of Beirut, the songs are a cry of resistance and of the belief in the power of good.
The album was recorded in Paris, Montreal, New Orleans and Lafayette Louisiana and include performances by guitarists Sonny Landreth, Eric Sauviat and Bill Dillon. Vocal duets include Isabelle Boulay from Québec and French songwriter Francis Cabrel. Wynton Marsalis is featured on "La Promesse Cassée", the royalties of which are devoted to helping the musicians of New Orleans who were impacted by the hurricane. The songwriting royalites are devoted to the Rwandan aid organization Mobilisation Les Enfants du Monde (www.mem-international.org) in its efforts to help the children of Africa.
With this new album, Zachary Richard confirms his heartfelt mastery of the folk song, and confirms his dedication to making this a better world.
