ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Modern vintage soul singer/songwriter/guitarist Zachary Ross just released his 3nd solo record, "Take Me". This latest effort features cinematic, creative performances and features a fine new group of musicians. This is Zachary's second record produced by Jon Evans of Tori Amos fame. Zachary and Jon moved past the traditional soul framework of Zachary's early works to create a new sound full of depth and vibrancy.

Zachary released, "For the Love I'm Forgetting" backed by a full band, complete with brass and Hammond B3. The group's sound, usually part horn-section funk / part "Quiet Storm" ballad calls to mind some of the old-school soul artists of the 60's but Ross' lilting, smoke & honey voice and his non-standard approach to songwriting give things a twist that keeps his music fresh and classic all at the same time.

Songs from "For the Love I'm Forgetting" were played by dozens of radio stations throughout the country, including KFOG, San Francisco's number 1 commercial AAA station. Zachary's music was also featured on compilations by Oasis Medai, Owl Magazine, KFOG's local scene and others.

Zachary's touring for "For the Love I'm Forgetting" saw a host of a sold out shows during which the group played with Chaka Khan, Blues Traveler, Aimee Mann, Sugar Ray, among others. The band has been joined on stage by members of Tower of Power, Ray Charles' band and the amazing Grammy-winning Tony Lindsay, lead vocalist with Santana.

HISTORY & BACKGROUND:
Born and raised in Kansas City, Zachary developed his craft sitting in with older, more experienced players in seedy blues clubs, where he was invariably the youngest guy on stage. "Seeing the passion and soul that poured from those players, watching them connect with an audience in such an honest way was a huge motivation," recalls Zachary. That listener connection is what hooked him for good, fueling his love of soul and gospel music and inspiring his almost folk approach to lyricism. His pure and sincere words string together an imagery filled recollection of his life. But as Zachary says, "these are scenes that we've all been through and my hope is that people get something of their own from the tunes. My job is to take something true, make it beautiful with words, and accessible with groove."

Take Me is exhilarating. While each track tells a story and is full of great lyrics and arrangements, the feel of this CD is all over the place for me. From funky to soulful, Ross is at his best when singing from his heart. Ross’ voice can float from sensuous to gritty in a minutes notice. The accompanying musicians only add to what is sure to become a “groove to” CD for all who risk to listen.
