Album Notes
THE ZIMMERMANS were perhaps washington, d.c.'s most explosive live act for several years in the mid-nineties. confounding the critics, they headlined all the area's major punk, rock, jazz, and folk venues, refusing to accept a stylistic pigeonhole. the band also toured widely across north america. this album was compiled from live recordings made from 1994-96 at washington-area venues, including the black cat, blues alley, the birchmere, and the WHFS harbourfest. the CD features ten previously unreleased songs. a document of a band on fire.

during the course of these recorded performances, the zimmermans were:

lisa engelken: vocals & accordion
jonathan spottiswoode: vocals & guitar
candace de bartolo: saxophone
tom watson: trumpet
kevin cordt: trumpet (1996)
tim vaill: drums
john young: bass

I was a big fan of this band. I saw Candace DeBartolo at Blues Alley one night and she told me about her work with this band. I saw them at the best venues, 15 Minutes, Black Cat, Birchmere, and of course, Blues Alley. The energy the band brought to the stage was unmatched by other local bands. Well, let the music speak for itself.

Great Representation of an Excellent Band
Part of what made The Zimmermans so enjoyable was the live experience. This disc does a fantastic job capturing some of that elusive energy. While _Loneliest Woman_ shows the band at the height of their production and composition skills, this CD is essential for a fan and highly recommended for anyone who wants to figure out what The Zimmermans were all about. I, for one, am glad to have "Bad Vibe" on CD, if nothing else.
