Album Notes
"Zinovy is finally here! The beloved european singer with his #1 original christmas song of the year and his first release in America." - cable TV
"...I give these tunes my highest marks...
...His voice is so different and interesting that listeners will be compelled to sing along..." Dianne Bennett, the music columnist for the Hollywood Reporter

Zinovy was inspired to write this beautiful Christmas song because as a newly arrived Russian immigrant he discovered Christmas, which is not celebrated in his native country. With the Yuletide spirit burning brightly in him he penned this song as a loving tribute to the season his newly adopted land.

An internationally celebrated musician, artist, composer and poet, Zinovy Shersher was born in the former Soviet Union. Working under the Communist regime, Shersher was known as Zinovy Tumanov, unable to use his true Jewish name by law of the Soviet authorities. This control of his identity underscored his perpetual struggle for artistic freedom in the U.S.S.R.
Shersher immigrated to the United States in 1980. Though he was not allowed to bring any of his work with him, he was able to reclaim his name and make a new start on his career. Finally free to express his artistic vision fully, Shersher flourished with songs and paintings of newfound brilliance. His success has continued throughout his two decades in America, featuring international tours and art shows, and worldwide acclaim.

Shersher's musical and artistic talents are harmonized in his paintings, which merge the emotional and intellectual into passionate melodic images. A strong feeling for movement, expressed with curvilinear lines and cubist sensibilities, forms a counterpoint to his tranquil themes.

"I want people to hear the music in my paintings," says Zinovy Shersher.

I give Zinovy's Christmas album my highest marks.
Zinovy's voice is so different and interesting
that the audience will be compelled to sing along.

High quality of the compositions and arrangements.
Of primary interest on his new Christmas release, then, are his original compositions, most especially the title track, Merry Christmas, I Wrote This Song For You, a slightly melancholy holiday love song.
The CD has an almost 1960s lounge sensibility, using themes and orchestration reminiscent of that era.
I particularly liked how Mr. Shersher interspersed his own (quite original and compelling) compositions among well-known modern pop Christmas tunes. (For example, he follows Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow with his own song, Snow.
Overall high quality of the compositions and arrangements.
This CD is of interest to lovers of original Christmas songs and fans of Burt Bacharach's early compositions.
