ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
LAUREL ZUCKER is AWARDED the 2006 BEST ALBUM OF THE YEAR FOR CLASSICAL SOLO INSTRUMENTAL ALBUM FROM THE JUST PLAIN FOLKS AWARDS 2006!!

If you want to relax and be dazzled at once buy this fantastic flute and harp CD! You have never heard a harpist do the magic that Susan does.

\"Images is a spectacular addition to the growing list of fine recordings Zucker has produced. With such interesting, captivating works such as Eolienne by Ida Gotkowsky, Cinque piccoli duetti by Jean Francaix, Trois Images by Theo Smit Sibinga, Sonatine by Victor Frost and Katherine Hoover\'s Dances and Variations, this recording provides arefreshing survey of 20th century styles of music for flute and harp. The harpist is Susan Jolles, who is an admirable partner in the rhythmic and sensitively played harp part.\"
\"THE FLUTE NETWORK 2001

Gramophone issue December 2007 states \"Zucker shapes everything with lovely gradations of timbre and nuance, and her phrasing keeps the ear mesmerised.\" Laurel Zucker is described by Gramophone Magazine 2003 \"as polished and gratifying as Rampal and Galway. Zucker\'s interpretations are splendid all round. Her tone is airy and sweet, her virtuosity graceful.\"

In 2004 Gramophone \"strongly recommended\" The Complete Telemann Fantasies for Flute and The Complete J.S. Bach Flute Sonatas on Cantilena Records describing her performances as \"intelligent, naturally phrased

and highly musical with a rich sound beyond reproach.\" In the August 2003 book, Inspirational Stories from the World\'s Best Flute Players, Laurel Zucker is featured along with James Galway, Herbie Mann, Ian Andersen, and Julius Baker. Fanfare Magazine refers to Ms. Zucker \"as a forceful advocate for 20th century music,\" and when she was awarded the Aaron Copland Fund for Music from the American Music Center to record the 1998 Take a Walk on the Wilder Side-CD, Fanfare Magazine stated \"this disc fills an important niche in American Music as well as flute literature.\"

As a jazz flutist Jazz Now 2005 describes her performance as \"Laurel\'s flute cutting the still air with a deep-felt emotion to the very last note.\" Claude Bolling in March 2004 on Zucker\'s Bolling Jazz Suites CD writes \"Dear Laurel Zucker, Your recording is beautiful, musician partners are excellent and your flute playing superb!!!\" Of the Flute Music by French Composers CD, Sir James Galway recommends on his website \"This is a really good record and should be in the library of all serious students. The repertoire is very good and it is beautifully played by Miss Zucker. I have a copy and think it is outstanding...\"

As an active performer and supporter of the flute community, Ms. Zucker has been a guest performer/teacher at the New York Flute Club, The Portland Flute Society, The Houston Flute Society, LA Flute Club, Dallas Flute Festival, North Carolina School of the Arts and the National Flute Association Convention. Images of beauty
I came from listening and buying Medieval Dances by the same two musicians and decided to see if I could find any other recordings of theirs. Luckily I found two others. Images for flute and harp sounds very difficult to play but Laurel Zucker and Susan Jolles both make everything sound easy. ususally I hear harpists playing the same old music over and over again. It is a pleasure to hear the two artists on Images experiment and look for new music.

Flute and Harp performing and music to die for!
If you think you have heard flute and harp music please think again. These are not your garden variety mall musicians. Susan Jolles and Laural Zucker are unstoppable with Images. Some of these composers I have not heard before: Katherine Hoover, Smit Sibinga. Do not let the lack of familiarity of the composers stop you from picking up a copy of this CD. By far the combination of Jolles and Zucker is the finest flute and harp combo that I have ever heard to date. The recording quality is outstanding as well. So many times in other recordings by other duos the harp can sound as if it is at the bottom of a well and the flute at the end of a tunnel. Be assured that you will enjoy the very present and full sound of both instrumentalists in my favorite flute and harp CD, Images.
